‘A Complete Unknown’ brilliantly covers the substantial impact of folk music in the US
The film “A Complete Unknown” follows not Bob Dylan’s career but others such as Joan Baez, Woody Guthrie, and Johnny Cash. Meaning, this film serves as a purpose to show many folk singers of the 60s.
This movie was released on Christmas day and surpassed $23 million after the weekend and highlights a stellar performance by Timothee Chalamet with their vocals, vibe, and look nearly uncanny.
Pete Seeger played by Edward Norton reminds Dylan through the film that music is a healing form, a war to fight war, and bring people together. His character brings some light to Dylan’s downbeat attitude.
Highlighting the costume designer, Arianne Phillips. The writer shows how she created costumes for Chalamet showing Dylan’s attire before and after fame. Starting out with baggy clothing turning into stylish outfits always paired with sunglasses as a persona.
The sunglasses create symbolism within the movie, helping to move forward the main conflict of the movie. Dylan wanted to hide behind these glasses when he was performing folk music. At the end of the movie he takes off his sunglasses, this is when he is performing his rock songs. In such a simple detail it shows development.
This blog highlights many aspects that go into creating a movie and I enjoyed that.
