Every coffee shop around Berkeley, mapped
For this week’s Blog-Proj I decided to take a look at The Daily Californians ‘Project’ section. This section of the newsletter seemed to be one of the most interesting things I have seen from this specific website. It had a collection of articles that relate to the campus and even the town while still keeping young students engaged with a simple layout and graphics for each article.
The first one that I decided to read was about the coffee shops around campus. The first section of this article showed an interactive map of each coffee shop’s location, the price range of that location, and even the rating. This was something that really struck out to me, a way to bring journalism to the next level and keep people engaged.

All of the pricing is based on the small size, 8 oz of coffee. There is a graph which shows the priciest coffee place to the least priciest based on this information. Some interesting things to me are the price differences they found between chain coffee shops. A Peet’s location is on average 10 cents more on Brown’s campus. When a student is looking to get coffee they look into factors such as accessibility and convenience. Some students might have to go to a pricier shop just because it is convenient for them to walk to. Students also highlight the progressive rise of prices for a coffee to adapt to the economy.
