US Department of Education expands Pell Grant funding for incarcerated students, criticism remains

July 2, 2023

In my previous readings of the Berkley news I decided to read pieces that come from personal opinion rather than real opinionated factual news. So, this time I decided to read a news piece that is national. The website has a news section and under that section there are topics such as campus, cities, nation, and even obituary. This shows someone looking to read the website that they are well versed in many topics. After looking deeper into this section I realized that national news does not get severed quite often. The most recent national article is dated July 2, 2023.

Although this was a well written article the fact that it is outdated no one will want to read, consistency is key.

This article highlights the US Departments plans to expand the eligibility for Federal Pell Grants for humans who wish to receive higher educational opportunities while incarcerated. There are now six bachelors degree programs who will be using this funding without limitations.

This story adds quotes to highlight how important it is that the government is supporting education in prison. When you add quotes to articles you are creating a sense of humanity and credibility making it so that readers trust your work and come back for more.
