Framing Statement

Learning Outcomes 1, 2, 4, 5, & 6

In the writing project samples I have chosen, I demonstrate significant progress in meeting the course outcomes 1, 2, 4, 5, & 6. The first draft that I put shows what I initially had to work with. This draft only uses 2 out of the 3 authors. The final draft of my essay shows how I implemented the final authors and how I switched up some quotes to fit my message better. This is seen as learning outcome 1, the recursive process. I learned that it is easy to edit something when you already have a base of what you want to talk about. It makes your points stronger and your overall essay better.

Learning outcome 2 is the integration of ideas. I learned this when integrating all three authors into the two that I already had in a cohesive way. I also used this process when my classmates would revise my essay. After revisions I would look at their recommendations and start to integrate what they recommended. This is a great thing to learn because it teaches me to use other peoples ideas and turn them into my own and relate them to my own work.

Learning outcome 4 is peer revision. During this process I got to see what I did well and what didn’t make sense. it was very helpful for me. Learning Outcome 5 is MLA format. Learning how to use MLA format was a lot of trial and effort process. Initially I started with just writing down the authors and the title of the excerpts, next I knew I had to find the year and pages. After a little bit of fixing, moving everything around, and indentation I finally had it figured out. By the time I knew how to do the format I understood why it was so important within an essay. Because I had MLA format I could just put page number next to quotes within my essay. Learning outcome 6 is sentence level grammar. This learning outcome highlights the importance of correct grammar and punctuation. When printing out my essay and reading it fully over I caught somethings I wouldn’t have. This includes misspelling, accidentally saying the same word twice, and even a capital letter in the wrong place. Getting this learning outcome out of the class makes you have a professional final paper at the end of your revision process.

Learning Outcome 1 : Recursive Process

Shown below is the final draft of my essay 2. I used this as the base of my essay 3. While using this draft I did this I learned how to use drafts for content and organizational purposes.

Shown below is my final draft of essay 3. It shows significant improvement from the first draft.

Learning Outcome 2 : Integration of Ideas

Throughout my whole essay I found ways to connect the ideas from Appiah, Turkle, and Fukuyama through quotes and my skills of integration. This was something helpful that I learned throughout the term because it taught me how to connect texts, which is very important for writing essays. This also helps all of my points flow cohesively and not feel so choppy because you know where all the information will fit best.

Learning Outcome 4 : Self-Critique

For my 3rd essay I had my peers read over my work and give feedback based on what I have written so far. This was very helpful for my revisions because I now knew what didn’t make sense to people and they may have caught things within my writing that I may not have or have thought to add.

Shown below is my feedback. I took this and integrated it into my final essay. A small detail that was helpful was adding the years of when each book was published.

Learning Outcome 5 : MLA
