Something new that I noticed on the website today was a big blue “donate” tab in the top left corner. They were mostly getting all of their donations 2 months ago but one of them was formed 18 days ago. Their mission for donations was to train the up and coming journalists.
Zac Posen is the executive vice president and creative director at Gap Inc. Posen recently has designed new costumes for one of three one-act ballets: Christopher Wheeldon’s “Within the Golden Hour.”. He describes his creative process.
He believes that designing for a stage and costumes is a totally different beast than his previous work such as the Oscars. You have to factor in movement and light. He was inspired by his pieces from his new home city, San Francisco. The colors of the skies and the movement of the water in the bay was very inspirational to him. When you are able to grasp these colors you “can’t even put a name on it”. He wanted to be simple, with a use of lightweight fabric and not add bells and whistles. He knew that he didn’t want to take away from the beauty of ballet. It is so important to performers how they move so an outfit could ruin their hard work very easily. That is why he felt so much pressure creating these pieces.
He ended the interview by highlighting people who helped him through his process.
